Sheer All The Way

Dear Diary,
The weather has been hot hot hot!  How does one manage to look elegant in such weather?  The answer is apparently sheer sheer sheer.  Not just sheer top, not just sheer bottom, it's sheer top and bottom!  Who came up with it?  It's genius.  Not only is it surprisingly stylish, it also solves those humid hot weather embarrassing issues: sweaty thighs, underarms, and chest!  Me? Sweat?  Never!

All Dressed Up for Nothing

Dear Diary,
There's one thing all women in this world are guilty of: keeping something in the closet that they have no place to wear to.  Some you might have purchased with the intention to wear them for certain occasions, but I'm sure there are a few pieces that you clearly knew you'd never wear under most normal circumstances (like getting invited to go on Ellen, accompanying Bradley Cooper on the Red Carpet,...etc).  Well,  I have a few of all of the above.  Here's one that would have been perfect for a court wedding...which I have no intention of having (call me Bradley Cooper!).

Embellished Shoulders

Dear Diary,
Lately if I'm lucky then I get six hours of uninterrupted sleep.  I'm so exhausted now I'm sure I'll fall asleep if I close my eyes for a little longer (can someone explain to me why little people need to wake up at 5 am?).  So naturally, I am falling back to comfortable stretch tee and dark colors (consider yourself lucky I didn't wrap myself in all black).   But even a simple cotton tee can have a little bit of oomph.  A few embellished top is can be a life savor in emergency situations such as this.  It gives the allusion that...there's effort involved in dressing yourself.  Good enough for me...yawn!

Neon Bright Mini Me

Dear Diary,
It's time for another confession.  I'm slightly obsessed with matching my LO or color coordinate whenever possible.  It's a terrible habit I know but I just couldn't pass up the fun.  So before I give up on my obsession (yeah right!), I had to share these mother-daughter outfits.   I hate to admit it, but her outfit is definitely better than mine!

Old Love New Flame

Dear Diary,
Most things get old and boring after a while (and the few exceptions are anything from Chanel and Hermes).  In the past year alone, how many times did you change your favorite nail or lip colors?  Jeans?  And how about boys?  But most of us end up holding on to the old even when we want to replace them (including boys).  So the next best thing is to make them fresh again.  Like adding this bright fuchsia blazer to the burnt orange dress I used to love love love.  By add a new shape, color, texture, or print over your old ensemble will instantly reignite that old flame again.  And by the way, this might work on boys too.

Bold Inside Out

 Dear  Diary,
I know it's hard to believe but I was once pretty shy from colors (let along loud colors with sheen).  It might have taken me three decades (shhhhh!) to get over this fear but I must say, colors are... fun!  I believe it takes a certain level of confidence to rock bright colors and those who do with ease shine like a star.  So what does it mean for the rest of us?  Fake it until you believe it!  Or more constructively... try different sheen, shades, and tones until you find something that makes you smile from the inside.

Dots and Plaid

Dear Diary,
Some things are obviously meant to be together from the start; like chocolate and strawberry, kittens and milk, grilled cheese and tomato soup, me and shoes.  And some things may seem odd at first but are surprisingly good together; like bacon and peanut butter, watermelon with salt, french fries and vanilla sundae (my favorite).  Before I get sidetracked by some strange food cravings, I must attest that polka dots and paid are one of those surprising combinations that are quite adorable together!   So next time you are craving banana and peanut butter, be sure to stop by your closet first to try these patterns together!

Cropped

Dear Diary,
Let's crank up the heat and bear some skin.  It's time for some crop top fever!  It wasn't even that long ago a crop top is mostly worn with white washed denim shorts (with fringe!) and a pair of skates by the beach; now it is red-carpet material!  The biggest celebrites are pairing them with form fitting pencil skirts, over the knee A-line skirts, cropped trousers,... etc.    Never knew it had so much fabulous potentials.  Here's my personal favorite - crop top with floor length skirts.  Because more drama is always better!

p.s. I'm in need of a little black cross body bag and that very important red lipstick!

Stripes on Stripes?!

Dear Diary,
Pattern mixing within an outfit is what I think the highest form of dressing.  Only the brave dressers dare to tackle this feat.  Most of us aren't the trendsetter type.  Buying patterns itself is already stepping out of our comfort zone, let along...mixing them!  But here's a concept I thought was worth trying: same pattern inside and out.  Gasp!  I wasn't sure if this was going to work but to my surprise, it wasn't horrific.  I would totally wear this on a weekend.  Do you think it's worth a try?

Blush and Red

Dear Diary,
Some things are so obvious that you don't even see it.  Like this newly discovered color combination I found on Pinterest: pale blush and red.  Perhaps it's because pink is a shade of red that you wouldn't think to add more...red as an accent.  Soft and feminine, I knew I had to try these colors out.  Luckily, I actually own a piece of garment in pale blush (not pink?), but to my surprise, I had trouble finding red accessories and that very very important red lipstick.  My journey to find a flattering red lipstick begins...now!
