Pencil Me In

Dear Diary,
Deep in my closet, hanging on a hanger, hidden behind layers and layers of skirts, is a long gray wool pencil skirt I purchased probably 10 years ago on a shopping trip with my mom (what can I say? I had mature taste back then!). I always thought the skirt had great potential, yet I never felt comfortable enough to pull it off.

But lately, I’ve seen these stretchy long pencil skirts in several trend reports, mostly military inspired and worn with ankle boots. Can you imagine how thrilled I was to find the latest trend in my own wardrobe? And this time around, I finally felt like I’ve grown up enough to pull it off with confidence. I guess I’m all grown up, Mom!

Fashionably Caged In

Dear Diary,
The best thing about sisters is that occasionally they will take the liberty to be your stylists and purchase something a cute top or a fabulous dress for you. Sometimes you feel like they are the best because they’ve scored you something you totally love, but then other times you wonder if they know you at all!

I received these moon gold cage heels from my sister a few months ago. I have to say my initial reaction was: “what was she thinking?” They were definitely not the most practical shoes nor were they something I would purchase. But I’m glad I found a way to incorporate them in my personal style in a way that is fun and flirty.

Perhaps I wasn’t a visionary like my sister, but after all, she is older and wiser!

Work + Bow

Dear Diary,
I can’t explain what is so special about knotted ribbons, but I am absolutely enchanted by anything with bows. It’s the ultimate expression of girliness (and I love being a girl)! But that begs the question: are bows appropriate for work attire?

My answer is obviously a big YES! I personally don’t work in a very traditional environment so I don't really believe in having a separate work wardrobe (unless you are in banking and in that case you probably don't have time to read my blog). The key to wearing any accents in a more formal environment is in moderation. So here’s my take to add a bit of sweetness to my work outfit!

3x the Fun! Final

Dear Diary,
I have a secret…let’s keep it between you and me!

When I fall in love with a piece of clothing, I have the tendency to wear it quite frequently (until it falls out of my favorite wagon, of course). But imagine my horror if people around me found out I’ve been wearing the same thing for two days straight (gasp!). So my trick is also my third and last look for this gray blouse – a cover up!

It might seem counter intuitive to cover up something you just splurged on, but sometimes when you only allow the best details of the piece to show (whether it’s the neckline, trim, hue, or fabric), you leave the audience wanting more!

What are you covering up today?

3x the Fun! Part II

Dear Diary,
Ever since hemlines on tops have gotten longer, I’ve been in heaven! On their own, they provide the perfect coverage for your behind when wearing them with leggings or skinny jeans. But my favorite thing about them is the option for me to change the shape of the silhouette by cinching the waistline.

My voluminous gray blouse is the perfect candidate for this shaping changing operation! With a skinny belt, the sheer outer layers became asymmetric pleats, adding more interest to the top. Add some sheen with leather accessories, and I think I have the perfect sassy outfit to kick off my weekend!

See my first look here:

I’ve got more tricks up my sheer puffy sleeves. Check back next week to see my how I wear this blouse in my third outfit~!

3x the Fun!

Ohhhh……Diarieeeee,
Please grant me a wish! I wish my wardrobe would double in size! No no…, I take that back. I want my wardrobe to triple in size!

Wish granted. Or rather, I found a way to get my existing clothes to work hard for the money.

For the next three posts, I am going to show how I wear one flowy gray top for three different occasions!

For the first look, I am thinking weekend luxe! Nothing goes better with voluminous top than a pair of leggings for balance. Slip on a pair of adorable flats and accessorize with a large necklace to draw attention upward, then you have an adorable yet effortless outfit for you to fly through you weekend errands!

How would you wear this top? Stayed tune for my next look!

On the Prowl

Dear Diary,
No words can describe my obsession with leopard prints….

It first made its appearance in my collection in the form of peep toe pumps, then it marked its territory in my accessories land as a fabulous scarf, now my closet is the habitat for a statement jacket with exaggerated shoulders.

From being the accents to my outfits the past few years, to becoming the focal point of the look, this bold print is definitely on top of the food chain.

Let’s hope the next sighting of this animal would be a chic handbag on the prowl (with a bow)!

Fur - My Way!

Dear Diary,
I would be lying if I said looking “put-together” doesn’t take effort. First, it starts with the skin care routine, followed by fierce make-up to enhance your features, then there’s the process of selecting the right outfit, and don’t even get me started on hair! While the whole thing can be somewhat enjoyable, there are times when you want all the jazz but no work. Here’s my formula:

Now let’s break it down to see why the formula works:

A Step Closer...

Dear Diary,
On the first day of each new year, I allow my imagination to run wild. To be more specific, I imagine that this year will be the year I will become Jason Wu’s muse and inspire him to create a line of quirky yet pretty dresses. Or maybe this year I will visit Mr. Louboutin’s Paris studio and inspire him to design a spectacular pump just for me! Better yet, this will be the year I get invited to sit first row in Chanel’s couture show in Paris! Hey, a girl is allowed to dream a little right?

Or am I???! Well, FabSugar is definitely getting me one tiny teeny step closer to my dreams. My first look featured on FabSugar, Dark Ballerina, was also picked as one of the "Top 50 Looks of 2010"! With this honor and encouragement in mind, I will keep pushing myself in 2011 so I can continue to offer different sides of my personal style!

Thank you F&R readers and thank you FabSugar!
